The Local Government Unit of Midsayap through the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GAD-FPS) conducted a two-day training on gender sensitivity for peacekeepers held at the 34th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army in Barangay Salunayan on September 3-4, 2020.

The said activity aims to introduce to the members of the armed forces the concept of gender and its importance in the development of one’s self and as a significant tool in the performance of their duty.

Mr. Orly Maraingan, GAD Technical Assistance Provider, shared to the participants the concepts of gender awareness orientation as well as gender and conflict and cultural sensitivity. 

It can be remembered that the Local Government Unit of Midsayap rolled out various activities to mainstream gender and development through its services. 

Ms. Mila Bayog, GAD Focal Person of LGU Midsayap, shared that the training was one of the activities under the approved 2020 GAD Plan and Budget. She added that the local government through the leadership of Mayor Romeo D. Arańa will continue to support this activity to popularize GAD among the different sectors in the community. 

The Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2013-01 or the Guidelines on the Localization of the Magna Carta of Women mandates local officials and employees to provide and ensure that gender and development is mainstreamed in the programs, projects, and activities of the local government unit.
