During its 34th Regular Session last March 10, 2020, the legislative department of LGU Midsayap approved legislations to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This is in response to the declaration of the State of Public Health Emergency throughout the country by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The proclamation tasked the LGUs to give full assistance and cooperation and mobilize the necessary resources to undertake critical, urgent and appropriate response and measures in a timely manner to curtail and eliminate the COVID-19 threat.

SB Midsayap requested the Department of Trade and Industry to monitor and recommend the implementation of price ceiling on all medical equipment, hygiene kits and other supplies relative to the mitigation, control and response to the COVID-19 through SB Resolution No. 2020-039 sponsored by Hon. Edgar B. Ostique, Jr.. This action is guided by Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act of the Philippines which states that the State shall establish a mechanism that will readily protect consumers from adequate supply and unreasonable price increase on occasions of calamities, emergencies and like occurrences.

In line with the efforts to prevent local transmission of COVID 19, Hon. Chelin Monica J. Arańa also sponsored a resolution (SB Resolution No. 2020-041) urging business and commercial establishments in the Municipality to provide alcohol or sanitizer for persons who will transact business in their respective establishments.

The Sanggunian also recommended to the Local Chief Executive, Mayor Romeo D. Arańa, to end all the day care classes in Midsayap effective March 13, 2020 and to cancel all moving up ceremonies as a measure to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 through the SB Resolution No. 2020-043 sponsored by Hon. Maria Belen B. Sabio.  This was after the recommendation of Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer John Karlo D. Ballentes after reports that there are 88 reported Persons Under Monitoring (PUM) in Region XII and the confirmation of localized transmission in the country.

It can be recalled that during the 29th Regular Session of the Sanggunian last February 4, 2020, the legislative body recommended to Mayor Arańa to issue an executive order creating the LGU’s Task Force Corona Virus to help contain the spread of the said disease.
